The Houston Independent School District’s Apollo 20 Program

In August 2010, the Houston Independent School District (HISD), through its foundation, and work with leading researchers,  launched the Apollo 20 Program, a major school turnaround reform initiative that is designed to dramatically improve student performance and close the achievement gap using the five tenets developed by HISD and its research partners.  Four high schools and five middle schools were selected to participate in the inaugural year. In fall 2011, 11 elementary schools were added to the program. Blueprint Schools Network has partnered with HISD since 2011 and currently provides recruiting, selection, training and monitoring support for the 270 full-time math tutors serving school children in all Apollo 20 elementary, middle and high schools.
