Tutor to Teacher

Growing the Next Generation of Educators

At Blueprint Schools Network, we are committed to building sustainable solutions that advance educational equity and student success. One powerful outcome of our work is the development of a tutor-to-teacher pipeline through our Math Fellows Program.

Each year, the Math Fellows Program places passionate, service-minded individuals in schools to provide high-impact, small-group math instruction. But for many, this role becomes more than a year of service—it becomes the first step in a lasting career in education.

An Innovative Pathway Into the Classroom

The Math Fellows Program has become an innovative teacher pipeline, giving aspiring educators the opportunity to serve in schools, build relationships with students and teachers, and gain valuable, hands-on experience in the classroom.

Approximately one out of every five Fellows becomes a full-time teacher—often in the schools where they served.

This transition isn’t accidental—it’s the result of intentional coaching, meaningful experience, and a growing passion for education cultivated during a year of service.

Inspiring Futures in Education

Each year, we survey our Fellows at the end of their service period to understand the impact of their experience. The results are clear: a significant number of Fellows report that their time with Blueprint positively influenced their desire to explore a career in teaching.

Beyond surveys, our alumni data tells a compelling story. From SY22 through SY25, many Fellows have gone on to serve in full-time roles in education, continuing to make a difference in the lives of students—many in the very communities where they served.

Here’s what Fellows are saying about their experiences with Blueprint Math Tutoring:

"I would recommend being a Math Fellow to others. I think it is a good experience and an excellent opportunity to learn a lot, particularly for those looking into going into education in the future."

"It was a great experience, and I think if a friend was curious about becoming an educator, this is a great place to start."

"I enjoyed working with Blueprint, and it has made a great impact on me. Before, I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do in life, but now I have a better understanding of what job aspects I enjoy and plan to pursue a career in education as a teacher."

"I approached this as an opportunity to experience what it would be like to become a classroom teacher, and I think it has been really helpful for that. I'm feeling much more confident about my choice."

"I have sincerely enjoyed my time as a fellow, and it has been super rewarding to see evidence of student academic growth from our tutoring sessions. I think my self-confidence in leading instruction, lesson planning, and working in a school environment has also improved so much as well. It's great to see my work as a fellow making a positive impact in the classroom as well as in my own professional development."

Impact that Lasts

The Tutor-to-Teacher pathway is more than a program benefit—it’s a reflection of Blueprint’s broader mission: to improve educational outcomes now while building a sustainable pipeline of passionate, prepared educators for the future.
