Blueprint’s framework is comprised of five core strategies that recent research has identified as the biggest drivers of student achievement in highly effective schools.

Evidence suggests schools that effectively incorporate these five strategies as a comprehensive package into their policies, practices and systems see great progress in the educational achievement of their students⁽¹⁾.Blueprint works to implement these strategies within traditional public schools.

EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AND INSTRUCTION

Excellence in leadership and instruction is fundamental to building and maintaining a successful school.

Using our research-based hiring toolkit, Blueprint’s human capital team works with schools and districts to recruit and select principals and teachers who possess competencies of highly effective practitioners to work in our partner schools.

Blueprint regularly monitors instructional effectiveness and provides recommendations to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

DAILY TUTORING

Research suggests Blueprint’s model of daily, small-group “high-dosage” tutoring has a statistically significant impact on student achievement. In fact, tutoring is found to have a stronger impact on school effectiveness and student learning than traditional resource inputs such as reduced class size, increased per pupil expenditures, and a greater number of teachers with advanced degrees⁽¹⁾.

Blueprint ensures classroom instruction in our network schools is supplemented with individualized tutoring during the regular school day through the Blueprint Fellows Program.

Blueprint manages the national recruitment, selection, training, and professional development of a corps of full-time tutors (Fellows) for each school and district.

INCREASED INSTRUCTIONAL TIME

More time in school means students have more time to learn.

Blueprint works to increase the time students spend on task and engaged in meaningful learning activities by working with districts to explore options for extending the school day, week, and year.

Blueprint also works with school leaders to ensure that existing time in school is used well. This involves analyzing the school schedule, monitoring transitions, and observing instruction to assess whether time for learning is being maximized.

This increase in time provides further opportunities for academic instruction, tutorials, interventions, enrichment, and teacher professional development.

A CULTURE OF HIGH EXPECTATIONS

By developing and reinforcing a culture of high expectations, Blueprint’s network of schools sets a foundation for all students to achieve at high levels.

Blueprint works with school and district leaders to set clear and consistent standards for academic achievement and the establishment of college-going cultures, student behavior systems, and learning environments.

DATA TO IMPROVE INSTRUCTION

Research shows that gap-closing schools frequently assess students on standards-based content and use the data from these assessments to drive instructional decision-making, including planning for re-teaching, remediation, and small-group differentiation⁽¹⁾.

Blueprint works with district and school leaders to implement data-driven instructional systems that empower teachers to identify struggling students and differentiate classroom instruction accordingly.
